Original Dark Goth Post Punk from the 1980s – “Too Big To Spin”

Recorded to 8 track tape circa 1985. The band’s sound is dark with rough edges of punk. Ray’s vocals stand out as a lead for the rest of the band to follow. This is combined with the solidity of the rhythm section that is comprised of Craig and Pete. The guitar sound from Bill adds washes and splashes of colour throughout. And another weave with Ray’s keyboard blends in just the right amount to fill in areas while still keeping space to reflect.

Too Big To Spin consists of Ray Kennedy on Vocals, Keyboards and Guitar; Bill McLain on Guitar; Pete Lester on Bass; Craig Camp on Drums.

The songs Joe’s Bones, Dirt, Pork Chop City and Hearsay were recorded by Paul du Gré at Lovelace Studio in Montecito, California. The songs were also mixed and mastered by Paul du Gré

Away and Regret were recorded in Santa Barbara, California, although the details are unknown.

In the video below, you’ll see the band practicing “Joe’s Bones” in a very hot studio in Santa Barbara. The video was filmed by George Davison onto a VHS camcorder.
